FF Meta is a historic and unmistakeable typeface as is its designer, Erik Spiekermann. From the Berlin Metro System to The Economist, FF Meta took the world by storm when it was released in 1991. In this type specimen, I explored Erik Spiekermann’s legendary design career, his quirky outlook on the world, and his development of FF Meta. Inspired by the visual language of The Economist, “The Rise of FF Meta” features the various arenas where Spiekermann and the typeface have left their mark.
